Eat A Fig!

I did not grow up eating figs. I grew up eating fruits that were native to Pittsburgh. Mangos and figs were considered exotic in the 70’s. Now more fruits are imported, and we have the opportunity to widen our pallets. Let’s start incorporating more fruit into our diet. Figs are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients that are essential for our health. They are a great source of dietary fiber, which helps to regulate digestion and prevent constipation. Figs also contain vitamins and minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron, which are important for maintaining healthy bones, muscles, and overall body function.

Figs are a great addition to your diet if you have high blood pressure.  Listen up, Black community!

They contain potassium, which helps regulate fluid levels in the body, balance heart rate, and regulate blood pressure.

Figs have been shown to reduce systolic blood pressure by up to 12 points in some cases, which can help improve vascular health and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Since many people do not consume enough fruits and vegetables, figs are an excellent source of potassium and fiber, which can help mitigate the negative effects of sodium in the diet.

Additionally, figs are rich in antioxidants, which help to protect our cells from damage caused by harmful molecules called free radicals. Overall, incorporating figs into your diet can provide numerous health benefits.
