In July 2018, my daughter was 4 years old. Yes, we still co-sleep.  It’s been the easiest way for everyone in the house to get a good night’s rest. I admit I am lazy and it’s just as much about saving me the time from getting up and checking on her 100 times a night, as it is about her comfort being under mom. For the first time, she has me second guessing how long this will last.

At 5:30 a.m., I am dead sleep when I feel my skin on my arm being ripped off. My first thought was to punch her! She bit me! I screamed, “OUCH, are you crazy?!” In the sweetest voice I ever heard, my daughter says “I thought you were sausage, Mommy.  I was dreaming about eating sausage at breakfast.” I said, “What?” She said, “I am so sorry, Mommy. Let me kiss it.” She grabs my arm, kisses it and starts snoring. I was left looking at her like she was crazy. It was the first time I ever really wanted to hit my child. I had to really talk to myself.  Those little teeth were sharp.

Instead of being angry, I went back to sleep and woke up at 9:00 a.m. and made her some butterfly pancakes and turkey sausage. Hopefully, it will keep my arms safe.
